Random Things

An afternoon on one ordinary day,
a friend was once asked to accompany me to get a spade.
Yup, a spade!

Along the way that afternoon,
we met another friend,
so off we all went,
we all march to grab a spade.
Yup, a spade!

A spade,
or shovel.
Doesn’t matter,
cause I surely know what I remember.

:P

Shut De Do

with 3 comments

I use ‘shut de do’ as my instant messenger status every now and then. It doesn’t have anything to do with solmization. There won’t be a shut de re, shut de mi, etc. It is actually a song title and it stands for ‘shut the door’.

The first time I heard the song, Shut De Do, was on one of GII Choir Concert (I forgot which one). I don’t fancy the song so much but I like the way it shortens ‘shut the door’ into ‘shut de do’. I still don’t know what kind of English that is, maybe it’s just the creative soul of the song author.

Shut The Door

Anyway, when I put the shut de do status, it’s almost like when people put their busy sign. Why shut the door? Because it will feel like I need my own room to do what I have to do, so I shut the door.

Oh! and I said ‘almost’ because in the end I still end up chatting. I can’t resist it. :D

This is Your Captain Speaking

with 8 comments

Taking off and landing are two most exciting moment during journey by plane. Both events take place not in the highest height where the plane might be. If I’m allowed to compare (and I do realize there is no strong reason to compare), they are quite the opposite of the born and death experience of the human being.

We, people didn’t feel a thing when we were born. We had low level of awareness around that time. When the time comes, when the heart stops or the brain doesn’t work anymore, we stop feeling anything.

Back to the plane thingy, when it takes off and lands, people get exactly the feeling of a start and an end. The two events fascinate me in a way that those put me in a situation where I’m wondering whether I’m going to live another day or not.

Hm.. That’s not quite fascinating. Let me try again. Ah.. never mind, I’m sure you all get it. Anyway, those are moments that I’m looking forward to in each of my travel time using plane.

But one of a time

when you can catch a glimpse of sunrise through the window,

and your plane is not taking off or landing,

when you’re up there in the sky,

and clouds are below you,

even when that’s just for a minute or two

because it will be so bright that then you have to close the window,

my opinion might be different.

Those beautiful numbers are the target.

Hopefully, I get three-digits for the first one.
The last number is predicted to be a little bit difficult,
but I won’t consider white flag to raise along the journey.

Wish me luck!

Goodbye Halcyon Days

with 5 comments

halcyon [hal-see-uhn]
adj : calm, peaceful, rich, wealthy, happy, joyful, carefree

So, that’s what it means.. It seems that the word halcyon contains everything good and wonderful in it. The title is taken from Bleach volume 27. In one of its chapter, the heroine Inoue Orihime, was “forced” to come to the villain’s site. Other words, she was kidnapped by the bad guys. However, Orihime was granted a last chance to say goodbye to only one person. To make things more unhalcyonic (no need to check dictionary, unhalcyonic is not a legal word :p), she had to say goodbye without the person noticing her. The bad guy gave her something to make her a ghost-alike (can’t be seen or something).

Faithful reader of Bleach will know by heart that “the person” should be Kurosaki Ichigo, hero of the story. You know when we watch movies or read books, there are parts that affect you in many ways. Keep it short: I favor Orihime’s farewell speech. Mind you, I’m not saying goodbye or anything related to it, wkwkkw.. I just like the farewell lines.  So, here we go:

Kurosaki-kun, you know, I… had a lot of things I wanted to do..

I want to be a teacher..
I also want to be an astronaut..
and also make my own cake shop..

Well, I have things I want to do as well. Bakery’s owner is a good one but the previous two.. mm… nah… I’d rather be a writer or someone who works at Advertising area. There are so many choices of jobs. Luckily I end up being my  most favorite, a Software Engineer. Anyway, most characters in Bleach are in high school, so those lines are quite understandable.

I want to go to Mister Doughnut’s and say “I’ll have them all!”…
and I want to go to Baskin Robins and say “I’ll have them all!”

Agree!! Huhuhu.. Imagine you can have your favorite foods served in various way: potato, dairy products, noodles, eggs, chocolate, flour-based foods except Kastengel and cheese stick. You can have it for free and without gaining more weight. Ahahahaha.. that’s heaven!

OHHHH… I wish I could live life 5 times over!
Then I’d be born in 5 different cities
I’d stuff myself full with different delicious things 5 times each
I’d have 5 different jobs

Life is full of excitement. Though rains come or even storms, but surely it’s something to be grateful of. To repeat and to do it differently, that could be wonderful… and….

and then for those 5 times…
I’d fall in love with the same person

negau no wa amazuppai orenji

The color is orange. In my mind, it’s always his. :p

Thank you, Kurosagi-kun!

Everyone is Happy

with 4 comments

.. being singular. Why?

At first, I was not happy that ‘everyone’ is happy being singular. Why does not it say: everyone are happy?

I asked him the question. I thought I had strong reason, great argument to defeat grammar that had existed for centuries.

There is a sense of lots in ‘everyone’. I always thought that when we said ‘everyone’, we were talking about people.

“No, it doesn’t work that way”, he said. “Everyone refers to each individual, it’s not like we add each individual to a collection so that it becomes a plural noun.”

I actually got it when he explained it that way. I should have said thank you, but I didn’t.

I needed object to hit. I just needed to cry so bad that I picked up a fight, a ridiculous fight… over English grammar. I threw all arguments that I could think of and persisted that everyone should be a plural.

He was very patient. He kept explaining and giving his own arguments. He didn’t let me to hold on the wrong answer. He tried his best to guide me. That was the way he responded to my English question. That was the way he raised me.

I did cry. :p

Now, I am very happy that ‘everyone’ is happy being singular. I’ve got myself a memory of him. It is priceless.

Should he be right here, right now, what would I do?

.. ask him what tenses to use if I want to tell, in narrator mode, a fact that still happens to the day when the story is told? Like the italic lines above.. I can pick up another fight over that.

Or better.. I can simply say,

Happy birthday, Pa!

I cast all my cares upon You,
I lay all of my burdens down at Your feet.
And any time I don’t know just what to do,
I will cast all my cares upon You. [Cares Chorus]

The Spilled Mango Juice

with 2 comments

One night when I bought mango juice home, I accidentally dropped it (FYI, it’s common in Indonesia to have beverages served in a plastic wrapper, not a plastic cup, a plastic wrapper. Does anyone knows the proper term for this?). I could not help that it’s spilled all over my floor.

A moment was there when I starred at the spilled of my favorite drink and started to think that despite my fondness of mango juice, Lipton Ice Tea Sparkling :P , and the song Yellow by Coldplay, I just realized and I felt it with all my heart (hehehehe..) that I didn’t like the yellow liquid I saw there on the floor.

Was it the color, yellow? or the fact that it’s spilled?
Is there anyone reading this post who might get annoyed looking at the ‘Yellow’ word above written in maroon? Wkwkwkwkwk
