A flying cow will keep my head up.

Book No 1 Year 2010

This is the first book I finished reading in 2010. My manager at work recommend this French satire by Voltaire.

I downloaded the e-book at ManyBooks. The site was like a treasure cave to me. Most of the e-books there were from Project Guttenberg but more organized. The site also provides various file types that we could download.

The wikipedia article about this literature can be found here.

Spoiler Alert!

I Just Haven’t Read You Yet

with 8 comments

It’s supposed to be ‘it’. I just haven’t read it yet because I’m talking about a book. But then it won’t rhyme with that lovely Michael Buble song (oh, I wish someone would met with(I hate you, Ted! but thanks! :)  meet Michael Buble in Phuket this April :P). Anyway, let’s settle with (and sing together): I just haven’t read you yet!

So, few days ago I was going through reviews for the dragon book in Amazon.  I read with excitement that I myself would own the book sometime this year. It was on the plan. I nodded for every good review and my smile grew wider as people kept giving appraisal for the book.

But there was this one review that made me almost having a second thought whether to buy the book or not. During college, all my text books are pirated one. There was this one photo copy centre near the campus that’s specialized in providing the textbooks. The students just needed to ask for the title they needed. Most of the time, they could hand it right away because they kept in stock.

The thought of having the original one almost never occurred to me. The textbooks were expensive and rare. Expensive, and each student needed not only one book. Rare, only available in the library and few number of bookshops (their collection was not that great, either).

It’s not like I would stop reading the pirated one. Work stuff sometimes made me go searching for the e-books (and not the legal one). I wanted to have my very own original textbook, a textbook that got my interest. I had made my living for almost 2 years but that didn’t mean I could buy all books I wanted. I had to make a choice.

When I read that particular review, I asked myself, ‘Do I really need to buy the book? What if  I neglect the book? It will be a waste of money’. The review said something about the content was not real-world material, that it would not be the same when facing the reality. I was ready to cancel my plan. But, hey!

The reviewer had clearly read the book. He had read the book.  He bought the book and read it. He bought the book and read it. He bought the book and read it. He bought the book and read it.

I am happy.

Ear Plugs And (Maybe) A Blindfold

with 2 comments

I dont wanna hear it.
I dont wanna hear it.
I dont wanna hear it.
I dont wanna hear it.
I dont wanna hear it.
I honestly d0nt wanna hear it.

I am not that strong.

I know I am obliged to listen.
Sometimes I imagine to hang up,
it’s only a thumb away anyway.
But most of the time I’d never do that for the same reason.

I am not that strong.

Not yet.
So, please, just hang on for a moment. Thank you.
